Winemaking Story:
Chisholm Vineyards sits on Adventure Farm, owned and operated by the Chisholm family since 1950. Both are managed by Andrea Matheson (3rd generation). The farm is home to Andrea, her husband Charles and six children (4th generation), along with grandmother/great-grandmother Mary Jane Chisholm, “Gigi”. The family upholds the stewardship begun by E. Morris Chisholm. The entire operation is diversified and a great example of sustainable agriculture and the continued tradition of family farming.

Adventure Farm has historically been a beef cattle farm. The Farm Shop in the Tasting Room sells the premium beef raised on the farm, which is hormone and antibiotic free, grass fed and grain finished on open pastures.

The twelve-acre vineyard began in 2007 and has proven to be a successful site, producing award-winning wine. A multitude of grape varietals are grown, including Chardonnay, Viognier, Chambourcin, Petit Verdot, Tannat, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Thirteen small lot wines are made with 100% estate grown fruit.

The farm also grows pumpkins and opens up the patch and corn maze during the October Fall Farm Festival. Local Heritage turkeys and Southwest Virginia Christmas trees are sold in the fall as well.

Winemaking Philosophy:
Chisholm Vineyards wine is 100% estate grown. We believe in the terroir and want the wine to reflect the site and strengths of the Monticello AVA. Chisholm Vineyards wine is traditionally made with a movement towards minimal intervention.
