Hark Vineyards
Hark Vineyards is one of the Monticello AVA’s newest wineries, opening to the public for the first time in October 2019. Founded by Candice and Aaron Hark in January 2015, our 80 acre estate boasts 20 acres under vine, spanning eight varietals. From the day we planted our first vines, we’ve put the wine first. You are the beneficiary of that, with a tasting room that is immediately adjacent to our solar-powered production facility. As you taste, you’ll enjoy a behind-the-scenes view into the winemaking process. Step outside the building up onto our patio, and lose yourself in a landscape where vines meet the Blue Ridge. Our grapes love it here. We think you will, too.

Winery Story:
Candice and Aaron Hark moved to Charlottesville in 2005. In those early days of balancing two businesses alongside other obligations, they enjoyed many inexpensive dates on the grounds of some of Central Virginia’s best vineyards. Soaking in the beautiful views over a glass of equally remarkable wine, they dreamed about what the future could hold. Often they commented to each other that, should they ever be in a position to do so, they’d like to open a place others could similarly enjoy.
After several years of searching for just the right spot, the Harks bought the initial 70 acres of open grazing land in 2015. In the years since, the land has been methodically cultivated to maximize the site’s winegrowing potential, create spaces for gatherings as well as quietude, and bring to life the vision that is Hark Vineyards.
The Harks love the outdoors, and in particular the bucolic landscapes of Central Virginia. They see the promise of Virginia wine and appreciate the way each vintage tells the story of its growing season. And they believe each of these are enhanced when enjoyed together, with friends and those who are not yet your friends.
Winemaking Philosophy:
We believe that wine is grown and guided gently to bottle. Our wines are 100% estate, and made on-site by Jake Busching.

Whites: Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Petit Manseng, Fuse (white blend)
Rosé
Reds: Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Spark (Bordeaux blend)
Additionally, Hark Vineyards is the home of Jake Busching Wines, the small batch private label of our winemaker.
Hours:
Saturday – Sunday: 11am – 6pm
Tasting Fee:
House Tasting $10; Reserve Tasting $15. Glass is included with both.
Group Tasting Policy:
Groups are welcome, but we request that parties of seven or more confirm a reservation in advance. Reservations may be requested through our website.
Food Available:
We welcome — and encourage — you to bring a picnic and enjoy the experience our estate offers. Some picnic foods such as cheese, charcuterie, jams, crackers, and chocolate are available for purchase in our tasting room.
Kid-Friendly:
Absolutely. Chocolate milk, fruit squeeze packs, and a diaper changing table are all available, too!
Pet Policy:
Well-behaved dogs on a leash are allowed outside, but not in the tasting room.
